This is how important drinking water is for your child
When they are still babies, you have good control over water drinking as a parent. But then they get bigger and start exploring the world on their own. Children at that age, relative to their body weight, need more water than we do. They grow at lightning speed and are especially very active. However, the discipline to drink water on your own from time to time is lacking. There is also so much to do! Do you regularly remind your child to have a glass of water?
Who needs what?
Toddlers* – 1 to 3 years old
These little ones need 500 ml of fluid each day, in addition to their daily portion of milk.
Preschoolers* – 3 to 6 years old
These active little people need at least 800 ml every day, about 4 glasses of water.
Children* – 6 to 12 years old
At this age, they need a liter of water a day, or five 200-mL glasses.
Teens* – ages 12 and up
Now they are getting really big. No wonder they need as much water as an adult from the age of 12: 1.5 to 1.8 liters per day.
Not thirsty?
Remind your children to have a glass of water regularly. They hardly experience a sense of thirst themselves. Only when their bodies show the first signs of dehydration do they get thirsty.
